Name: Philodendron ernestii Engl.
Etymology: The genus name Philodendron is derived from the Greek philo ("loving") and dendron ("tree"). The specific epithet ernestii honors the German botanist and explorer Ernst Heinrich Georg Ule.
First description: 1905 by Adolf Engler.
Origin/Distribution: Tropical South America, particularly the western and central Amazon basin.
Location/Habitat: Climbing or hemiepiphytic in warm, humid lowland rainforests. We cultivate the species in warm conditions at approximately 21–29 °C, with high humidity, good air circulation, and bright to semi-shaded light. The coarse, humus-rich aroid substrate should remain consistently slightly moist.
Description and notes: Philodendron ernestii is a tropical climbing plant that develops particularly well with a sturdy trellis. An airy root environment, consistent warmth, and constant moisture promote the development of vigorous leaves and longer internodes.
