etymology: dodsonii = Calaway Homer Dodson (December 17, 1928 - August 9, 2020) was an American botanist, orchidologist, and taxonomist. In 1973, Dodson was appointed executive director of the new Marie Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota, Florida, where he remained for ten years.

Origin: Costa Rica, Panama, Ecuador
Location: Hemiepiphytic; the stems grow climbing and clinging in tropical moist forest and premontane rainforest habitats at altitudes of 220-2000m. In Costa Rica it occurs on both the Pacific and Atlantic coasts, in Colombia and Ecuador only in the Pacific Andes.
Remarks:
Philodendron dodsonii has dark green, velvety foliage (when older), and is characterized by short internodes, mature leaves are clearly veined
