Description

Philodendron dodsonii

Name: Philodendron dodsonii Croat & Grayum

Etymology: The genus name Philodendron literally means "tree-loving". The specific epithet dodsonii honors the American botanist and orchid researcher Calaway H. Dodson.

First description: 1997 by Thomas B. Croat and Michael H. Grayum.

Origin/Distribution: From southern Central America to Ecuador.

Location/Habitat: Hemiepiphytic and climbing in moist tropical forests. We cultivate the species at approximately 18–28 °C, with high humidity and good air circulation in a coarse, airy aroid substrate.

Description and notes: Mature plants develop dark green, velvety-looking leaves with distinct venation and relatively short internodes. A climbing support promotes larger leaves.
