Description

Philodendron colombianum (aka schottianum 'Guayzimi')

Name: Philodendron colombianum R.E.Schult.

Etymology: The specific epithet colombianum refers to Colombia.

First described: 1958 by Richard Evans Schultes.

Origin/Distribution: Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.

Location/Habitat: Terrestrial to epiphytic climbing in tropical rainforests, often near streams and waterfalls, at elevations of approximately 200–1,200 m. We recommend warm conditions of approximately 19–29 °C, high humidity, and bright, indirect light.

Description and Notes: The plant was long sold under the name Philodendron schottianum ‘Guayzimi’. It develops large, robust leaves and requires a sturdy support for climbing. Keep a coarse, airy, and slightly moisture-retaining aroid potting mix evenly moist, but avoid waterlogging. Good air circulation supports healthy roots and leaves.
