Description

Philodendron billietiae

Name: Philodendron billietiae Croat

Etymology: The specific epithet billietiae honors the Belgian botanist Frieda Billiet, who collected the species in French Guiana.

Origin/Distribution: Northern South America.

Location/Habitat: Climbing to hemiepiphytic in warm, humid tropical forests. We cultivate the species in warm conditions at around 20–29 °C, with high humidity and bright, indirect light. A climbing support and coarse, airy aroid mix encourage larger leaves.

Description and Notes: Philodendron billietiae develops long, narrow leaf blades and striking orange to yellow-orange petioles. As it matures, it takes on a particularly elegant, large-leaved growth habit. We keep the substrate evenly and slightly moist, avoiding waterlogging.
