Description

Philodendron bicolor

Name: Philodendron bicolor Croat, Scherber., M.M.Mora & G.Ferry

Etymology: The genus name is derived from the Greek words “phílos” (friend) and “déndron” (tree). The specific epithet bicolor means “two-colored”.

Origin/Distribution: Peru.

Location/Habitat: Hemiepiphytic climber in moist tropical montane forests on the edge of the Amazon basin. In cultivation, the species prefers approximately 19–28 °C, high humidity, bright filtered light and a climbing support.

Description and Notes: Characteristic are the long, narrow leaves and their dark reddish-purple underside. A moss pole supports the upward growth. We recommend a coarse, airy substrate and consistent light moisture without waterlogging.
