Name: Philodendron baudoense Croat & D.C.Bay
Etymology: The genus name Philodendron is derived from the Greek philo (“loving”) and dendron (“tree”). The specific epithet baudoense refers to the Serranía del Baudó in the Chocó region.
First description: 2008 by Thomas B. Croat and D.C. Bay.
Origin/Distribution: Colombia and Ecuador.
Location/Habitat: Terrestrial to hemiepiphytic in humid tropical forests of the Pacific region, primarily in warm lowlands. We cultivate the species in warm conditions at about 20–28 °C, high humidity, good air circulation, and bright to semi-shaded, indirect light. We keep the coarse, humus-rich aroid substrate consistently slightly moist.
Description and notes: Philodendron baudoense develops elliptical to obovate leaves with a clearly defined midrib and widely spaced lateral veins. Its vigorous, climbing growth is encouraged by a sturdy climbing support. A permanently airy root environment is particularly important.
