Name: Philodendron asplundii Croat & M.L.Soares
Etymology: The specific epithet asplundii honors the Swedish botanist Erik Asplund, who collected extensively in South America.
First description: 2001 by Thomas B. Croat and M. L. Soares.
Origin/Distribution: Tropical western South America, including Ecuador and Peru.
Location/Habitat: Terrestrial to hemiepiphytic in moist tropical and premontane forests. We recommend approximately 18–28 °C, high humidity, bright filtered light, and good air circulation.
Description and notes: This vigorous climbing plant develops large, long-petioled, oblong-cordate leaves. A sturdy climbing support encourages the development of more mature leaf shapes. A coarse, very airy aroid substrate with good water-holding capacity is suitable. Keep evenly slightly moist, but allow the top layer to dry out a little before the next watering.
