Description

Philodendron asperatum

Name: Philodendron asperatum, (K.Koch) K.Koch 1855
Etymology: asperatus = rough, uneven
Origin: northern South America
Habitat:
Hemiepiphytic in tropical lowland and montane forests in moist, wet forests on both sides of the Andes and the Amazon Basin, in partially shaded locations on sandy soil at elevations of 200–1400 m
Notes:
Philodendron asperatum is widespread across northern South America, from the Pacific to the Atlantic coast, and is also found in the Caribbean. Although its main range is above 200 m, it is not uncommon to find it at sea level as well: this species is highly adaptable and vigorous.
