With flowers measuring only 5 x 15 cm, Dracula simia is one of the larger-flowered species, with horizontal to hanging inflorescence stalks up to 15 cm long bearing 2-3 terminal flowers that open one after the other.
The flower of this species has the greatest resemblance to a monkey face due to its red-violet flowers with a light, almost white heart.
