Name: Vanda roeblingiana Rolfe
Etymology: The genus name Vanda derives from a South Asian plant name that was adopted into botanical nomenclature. The specific epithet roeblingiana is a commemorative name.
Origin/Distribution: The species is native to the Philippines.
Habitat: Vanda roeblingiana grows epiphytically in warm, humid forests in bright, airy locations. We recommend very bright, filtered light, high humidity, and good air circulation. Warm conditions of approximately 20–30 °C during the day and 16–23 °C at night are favorable. The robust aerial roots should be watered regularly and then allowed to dry quickly.
Description and Notes: The species grows monopodially, with robust leaves arranged in two rows. Its attractive flowers have a waxy texture and range in color from yellowish green to brownish, with a contrasting lip. We grow the plant in very airy conditions, using coarse substrate, a mesh pot, or a basket. During growth, we water and fertilize regularly with water that is as soft as possible, while avoiding waterlogging.
