Name: Vanda coerulescens f. alba
Etymology: The species name coerulescens means "becoming bluish" and refers to the typical flower color of the species. The term "alba" denotes a white-flowered form lacking the bluish-violet coloration characteristic of the normal form.
Origin / Distribution: The species Vanda coerulescens is distributed in Northeast India, Myanmar, Thailand, and Southwest China.
Location / Habitat: Epiphytic in open forests and mountainous regions, where the plants receive plenty of light, good air movement, and significant differences between day and night temperatures.
Description & Notes: Vanda coerulescens is a more compact Vanda species with monopodial growth, strong aerial roots, and narrow, leathery leaves. The alba form is characterized by light to pure white flowers and appears particularly elegant. The flowers appear in upright to slightly pendulous racemes and can be pleasantly fragrant. We cultivate them in a very bright and airy environment at intermediate to warm temperatures, about 18–28 °C during the day and slightly cooler at night. During the growth phase, we water regularly, but allow the exposed roots to dry out well afterward.
