Name: Trisetella cordeliae
Etymology: The genus name Trisetella refers to the three conspicuously elongated or bristle-like sepals of many species of these miniature orchids. The specific epithet cordeliae is a patronymic.
Origin/Distribution: Andean region of South America.
Location/Habitat: The species grows epiphytically in moist montane to cloud forests. We recommend partial shade to bright, diffused light, high humidity, and continuous air movement. Cool-temperate to temperate conditions of approximately 11–23 °C during the day and 7–16 °C at night are favorable. The very fine roots should remain evenly and slightly moist.
Description and Notes: Trisetella cordeliae is a compact botanical miniature orchid from the Pleurothallidinae group. The small flowers possess the long, slender sepals characteristic of the genus and appear very striking despite their small size. We prefer to cultivate the species mounted with some moss or in a very fine, airy orchid substrate that retains some moisture. We use water that is as soft as possible, avoid allowing it to dry out completely, and ensure good air movement when humidity is high.
