Name: Stelis restrepioides
Etymology: The genus name Stelis derives from the Greek word for “mistletoe” and refers to its epiphytic growth habit. The specific epithet restrepioides means “resembling Restrepia” and alludes to a similarity to orchids of the genus Restrepia.
Origin/Distribution: Andean region of South America.
Site/Habitat: This species grows epiphytically in humid montane to cloud forests. We recommend partial shade to bright, indirect light, high humidity, and continuous air movement. Cool-temperate to temperate conditions of approximately 11–23 °C during the day and 7–16 °C at night are favorable. The fine roots should be kept evenly and slightly moist.
Description and Notes: Stelis restrepioides is a compact, pseudobulb-free Pleurothallidinae orchid with leathery leaves and small, intricately detailed flowers on slender inflorescences. We grow this species in a fine, airy orchid substrate that retains a little moisture. We water regularly with water that is as soft as possible, avoid allowing it to dry out completely for extended periods, and ensure good air movement in conditions of high humidity.
