Name: Specklinia grobyi (Bateman ex Lindl.) F.Barros
Synonyms: Pleurothallis grobyi Bateman ex Lindl.; Humboltia grobyi (Bateman ex Lindl.) Kuntze
Etymology: The specific epithet grobyi honors Lord Grey of Groby, a British orchid enthusiast of the 19th century.
First described: In 1835 as Pleurothallis grobyi; transferred to Specklinia by Fábio de Barros in 1983.
Origin/Distribution: From southern Mexico through Central America to tropical South America.
Location/Habitat: Epiphytic in humid to seasonally drier forests, from the lowlands to about 1,500 m. Intermediate to warm conditions of approximately 16–27 °C, filtered light, medium to high humidity, and good air movement are suitable.
Description and notes: This clump-forming miniature orchid has tiny, leathery, ovate-spatulate leaves. Delicate inflorescences rise above the foliage and bear several pale yellow to greenish-cream flowers, often marked with reddish patterns. Grow mounted on cork or bark with a little moss. Do not let the fine roots dry out completely, while avoiding standing water in the dense clumps.
