Name: Specklinia endotrachys (Rchb.f.) Pridgeon & M.W.Chase
Synonyms: Pleurothallis endotrachys Rchb.f.; Empusella endotrachys (Rchb.f.) Luer
Etymology: The genus name Specklinia honors the botanist Carl Ludwig Specklin; endotrachys combines Greek words for “inside” and “rough,” describing the textured inner surface of the sepals.
Origin/Distribution: Central America to northern South America.
Location/Habitat: A miniature epiphytic orchid of humid mountain forests. Grow in shade to partial shade, in cool to intermediate conditions at about 13–24 °C and with high humidity. Keep the fine, airy substrate evenly slightly moist and ensure gentle air movement.
Description and Notes: Specklinia endotrachys grows compactly in clumps. Slender inflorescences can produce several waxy orange to reddish-brown flowers in succession. Particularly striking is the rough to finely textured inner surface of the fleshy sepals. Do not allow the fine roots to dry out completely.
