Name: Rhyncholaeliacattleya Hubert Garton
Description & Notes: A large-flowered Cattleya hybrid with vigorous, upright growth and the pseudobulbs typical of the Cattleya alliance. Its striking flowers make it an attractive collector's plant for bright windowsill locations and greenhouses. During active growth, it requires regular watering and nutrients; once the new shoots have matured, the culture can be kept slightly drier.
Light: Very bright with plenty of indirect light and some milder morning or evening sun. Avoid intense midday sun behind glass.
Temperature: Warm to temperate, ideally around 18–28 °C during the day and around 15–20 °C at night. A slight drop in temperature at night is beneficial.
Water & Humidity: Water thoroughly during growth and then allow the substrate to dry out well. In winter, or after the shoots have finished growing, water more sparingly without allowing the pseudobulbs to shrink excessively. A humidity of around 50–70% with good air circulation is beneficial.
Substrate: Coarse, very airy orchid substrate on a bark base with good drainage. The roots should be allowed to aerate again quickly after watering; avoid permanently wet substrate.
