Description

Restrepia purpurea 'Vino Tinto'

Name: Restrepia purpurea ‘Vino Tinto’

Etymology: The genus name Restrepia honors José Restrepo; purpurea means “purple.” The cultivar name ‘Vino Tinto’ refers to the intense wine-red to purple color of the flowers.

Origin/Distribution: The species is native to Colombia.

Location/Habitat: We grow ‘Vino Tinto’ in cool to intermediate conditions at approximately 13–23°C, with high humidity, bright filtered light, and gentle air circulation. We keep the fine, airy substrate evenly moist.

Description and Notes: This selection stands out for its intense purple to wine-red flowers. Well-established shoots can bloom repeatedly, allowing the compact plant to produce new flowers again and again over an extended period. It is very well suited to a display case or a tempered greenhouse.
