Description

Restrepia elegans

Name: Restrepia elegans H.Karst.

Etymology: The genus name Restrepia honors José Restrepo; elegans means “elegant”.

Origin/Distribution: The species is found in northern and western South America.

Location/Habitat: We cultivate Restrepia elegans in cool to intermediate conditions at approximately 13–24 °C, with high humidity, bright filtered light, and gentle air movement. We keep the fine, airy substrate evenly slightly moist.

Description and Notes: This compact Restrepia produces striking, finely marked flowers and can bloom repeatedly on well-established shoots. The species is very well suited to display cases and temperate greenhouses. We avoid allowing the fine roots to dry out completely.
