Description

Pleurothallis calceolaris dark red

Name: Pleurothallis calceolaris – dark red color form

Etymology: The genus name Pleurothallis means “side-flowering”; calceolaris means “shoe-shaped”. “Dark red” refers to the particularly dark red flower color of this selection.

Origin/Distribution: Tropical South America.

Location/Habitat: We cultivate this form in cool to intermediate conditions at around 10–23°C, with high humidity, diffuse light, and very good air circulation. The fine roots remain evenly slightly moist.

Description and Notes: This selection is distinguished by its intense dark red flower color. The plant is pseudobulbless and produces leathery leaves and unusually shaped flowers. A fine, airy, and slightly moisture-retaining substrate is well suited.
