Name: Pleurothallis acestrophylla
Etymology: The genus name Pleurothallis is derived from Greek word elements meaning “side” and “bloom,” referring to the lateral position of the flowers in many species. The specific epithet acestrophylla refers to the characteristic shape of the leaves.
Origin/Distribution: Andean region of South America.
Location/Habitat: The species grows epiphytically in moist montane forests. We recommend partial shade to bright, diffused light, high humidity, and continuous air movement. Temperate conditions of approximately 12–24°C during the day and 8–17°C at night are favorable. The fine roots should remain evenly and lightly moist.
Description and Notes: Pleurothallis acestrophylla is a pseudobulbless botanical orchid with leathery leaves and small, intricately detailed flowers. We cultivate it in a fine, airy orchid medium that retains some moisture, or mounted with correspondingly high humidity. We water regularly with water that is as soft as possible, avoid allowing it to dry out completely for extended periods, and ensure good air movement when humidity is high.
