Name: Phragmipedium Olaf Gruss
Parents: Phragmipedium besseae × Phragmipedium pearcei
Registration: Registered with the Royal Horticultural Society in 1996 by Franz Glanz; Franz Glanz is also listed as the originator.
Etymology: The genus name Phragmipedium is derived from Greek word elements meaning “partition” and “shoe,” referring to the fan-shaped ovary and shoe-shaped lip.
Location/Cultivation Conditions: Grow in bright to partial shade, with high humidity and continuous gentle air movement. Suitable temperatures are approximately 16–25 °C during the day and 12–18 °C at night. Use an airy yet moisture-retaining potting medium and keep evenly moist with soft water; Phragmipedium roots should not dry out completely.
Description and Notes: A compact primary hybrid. Phragmipedium besseae contributes bright orange to red tones, while Phragmipedium pearcei can promote a slender growth habit, narrower segments, and good multi-flowering. Seedlings vary in color and flower shape.
