Maxillaria standleyi

Name: Maxillaria standleyi

Etymology: The genus name Maxillaria is derived from the Latin maxilla for "jaw" and refers to the flower structure; standleyi is a patronymic.

Origin/Distribution: Tropical America.

Location/Habitat: We cultivate the epiphytic species intermediately at approximately 13–25 °C, with high humidity, bright filtered light, and good air circulation. During active growth, we keep the airy substrate evenly slightly moist.

Description and Notes: The species forms pseudobulbs with leathery leaves and develops its flowers individually from the area of the pseudobulb base. After new shoots have matured, we reduce watering slightly without letting the plant dry out completely.
