Description

Masdevallia picea

Name: Masdevallia picea Luer

Origin/Distribution: Tropical South America.

Location/Habitat: The species grows epiphytically in moist mountain and cloud forests with filtered light and consistent humidity. In cultivation, we recommend cool to temperate conditions, approximately 10–22 °C, high humidity, and gentle, steady air movement.

Description and Notes: The compact species bears dark-colored, elegantly pointed flowers. Its fine roots are sensitive to heat, compaction, and prolonged dryness. We cultivate it in a fine, airy, and moisture-retaining orchid potting mix. The potting mix should never dry out completely; however, waterlogging and stagnant air should be avoided.
