Description

Masdevallia ivanii

Name: Masdevallia ivanii Luer & V.N.M.Rao

Origin/Distribution: Southeastern Ecuador, particularly the Cordillera del Cóndor.

Location/Habitat: The species grows epiphytically in moist montane and cloud forests with filtered light and consistent humidity. In cultivation, we recommend cool to temperate conditions, approximately 10–22 °C, high humidity, and gentle, steady air movement.

Description and Notes: This rarely cultivated species has the compact growth form of many high-montane Masdevallias and elegant flowers with slender sepal tips. We cultivate it in a fine, airy, yet moisture-retaining orchid substrate. The substrate should never dry out completely; however, waterlogging and stagnant air should be avoided.
