Name: Masdevallia Prince Charming
Parents: Masdevallia angulata × Masdevallia veitchiana
RHS Registration: Masdevallia Prince Charming is registered in the Royal Horticultural Society's International Orchid Register. The grex was registered in 1979 by Rod McLellan Co.
Etymology: The genus name Masdevallia honors José Masdeval, a Spanish physician and botanist. Prince Charming is the registered grex name of this primary hybrid.
Location/Cultivation conditions: We recommend a bright to semi-shaded location with diffused light, high humidity, and very good air circulation. Cool to cool-temperate conditions of approximately 8–21 °C are favorable, with significantly cooler nights. Prolonged heat should be avoided if possible. The substrate should remain evenly slightly moist without being permanently waterlogged.
Description and notes: Masdevallia Prince Charming is a primary hybrid of Masdevallia angulata and Masdevallia veitchiana. The plants grow compactly without pseudobulbs and form individual leathery leaves. The flowers can combine the impressive shape and color effect of M. veitchiana with traits of M. angulata; variations in color, patterning, and shape are possible between individual plants. We water regularly with the softest water possible and do not let the fine roots dry out completely. A fine, airy, and slightly moisture-retentive substrate is well-suited. High humidity should always be combined with continuous air circulation.
