Name: Masdevallia Imperial Flame
Parents: Masdevallia Heathii × Masdevallia macrura
Registration: Registered by Crownpoint in the RHS International Orchid Register on July 15, 1992; Beall is listed as the originator.
Location/Cultivation Conditions: We recommend low to moderate light intensity, high humidity of about 70–85%, and consistent air movement. The hybrid grows cool to intermediate, ideally at about 15–22 °C during the day and 10–14 °C at night; prolonged temperatures above 24 °C should be avoided. The fine, airy potting mix is kept evenly moist, without allowing water to stand in the pot.
Description and Notes: Masdevallia Imperial Flame combines the warm, vibrant hues of Masdevallia Heathii with the impressive flower size and long-extended sepal tips of Masdevallia macrura. The medium-sized, orange to red flowers sit on relatively long stems and are long-lasting. Color intensity and shape may vary between individual seedlings. We recommend soft water, weak regular fertilization, and repotting before the potting mix breaks down significantly.
