Name: Masdevallia Heather Anderson
Parents: Masdevallia helgae × Masdevallia rex
RHS Registration: Masdevallia Heather Anderson is registered in the Royal Horticultural Society's International Orchid Register. The grex was registered by Ecuagenera in 2012.
Etymology: The genus name Masdevallia honors José Masdeval, a Spanish physician and botanist. Heather Anderson is the registered grex name of this primary hybrid.
Location/Cultural conditions: We recommend a bright to semi-shaded location with diffused light and protection from direct sun. Cool-temperate conditions of about 15–24 °C during the day and 10–17 °C at night are favorable. A humidity of approximately 65–80% should be combined with good, continuous air circulation. Keep the substrate consistently slightly moist.
Description and notes: Masdevallia Heather Anderson is a primary hybrid of Masdevallia helgae and Masdevallia rex. It can develop large, striking flowers with vibrant coloring and an elegant shape. The plants grow compactly without pseudobulbs and form individual leathery leaves on short stems. We water regularly with the softest water possible and do not let the fine roots dry out completely. A fine, airy, and slightly moisture-retentive substrate consisting of fine bark with some sphagnum is well-suited. Cultivation on a suitable mount is also possible if humidity is sufficiently high. In warmer conditions, particularly good air circulation and protection from overheating are important.
