Name: Masdevallia Celestial Stripes
Parents: Masdevallia yungasensis × Masdevallia Pinocchio
Etymology: The genus name Masdevallia honors José Masdeval, a Spanish physician and botanist. Celestial Stripes is the grex name of this hybrid.
Location/Culture: We recommend a bright to semi-shaded location with diffused light, high humidity, and very good air circulation. Cool to intermediate conditions of about 10–22 °C are favorable. Plants should be kept as cool as possible, especially at night, and protected from prolonged summer heat. Keep the substrate evenly slightly moist.
Description and Notes: Masdevallia Celestial Stripes combines Masdevallia yungasensis with Masdevallia Pinocchio. The plants grow compactly without pseudobulbs and form individual leathery leaves on short shoots. The flowers can show striking striping and coloration as well as the characteristic elongated sepals of the parent lines. We water regularly with the softest possible water and do not let the fine roots dry out completely. At the same time, excess water must be able to drain away quickly. A fine, airy, and slightly moisture-retentive substrate is beneficial. High humidity should always be combined with continuous air circulation.
