Description

Lycaste macrophylla var. litensis

Name: Lycaste macrophylla var. litensis

Origin / Habitat: A South American form from the Andean region, where it grows in humid mountain forest habitats under temperate and high-humidity conditions.

Description & Flowering: A vigorous, pseudobulbous orchid with large, distinctly pleated leaves. The flowers emerge from the base of mature pseudobulbs and possess the striking, triangular flower shape characteristic of the Lycaste genus.

Light: Bright to semi-shaded, without intense direct midday sun.

Temperature: Temperate, about 15–24 °C.

Water & Humidity: Water regularly during growth and keep evenly slightly moist. Reduce watering when growth slows. High humidity should be combined with good air circulation.

Substrate: Airy, slightly moisture-retentive, bark-based orchid substrate with some sphagnum or perlite.
