Description

Lycaste dyeriana

Name: Lycaste dyeriana Sander ex Rolfe

Etymology: The genus name Lycaste was chosen after a figure from Greek mythology; dyeriana honors the British botanist William Turner Thiselton-Dyer.

Origin/Distribution: The species originates from Central America.

Location/Habitat: We cultivate Lycaste dyeriana under intermediate conditions at approximately 15–24 °C, with bright, filtered light, high humidity, and good air circulation. We keep the airy substrate evenly slightly moist during active growth.

Description and Notes: The species forms robust pseudobulbs, large pleated leaves, and single, striking flowers from the base of mature pseudobulbs. After new shoots have matured, we adjust watering to the slowed growth.
