Name: Sudamerlycaste ciliata
Origin / Habitat: A South American orchid from moist Andean cloud forests. It grows in bright to semi-shaded conditions with good humidity and air circulation.
Description & Flowering: A robust, pseudobulbous species with large, pleated leaves. The flowers emerge from the base of mature pseudobulbs and display the striking, triangular shape typical of this genus.
Light: Bright to semi-shaded; protect from intense midday sun.
Temperature: Cool to intermediate, approximately 14–23 °C.
Water & Humidity: Water regularly during active growth and keep evenly slightly moist. Reduce watering as growth slows down, without letting the plant dry out completely for extended periods. Good air circulation is important.
Substrate: Airy, yet moisture-retentive, bark-based orchid substrate, supplemented with some sphagnum or perlite.
