Name: Lepanthes uxoria Luer & Hirtz
Etymology: The genus name Lepanthes is derived from the Greek lepis ("scale") and anthos ("flower"). The epithet uxoria is Latin and means "concerning the wife".
First description: The species was described in 1996 by Carlyle A. Luer and Walter Hirtz.
Origin / Habitat: Ecuador (Morona-Santiago) and Peru (Pasco), epiphytic in moist montane forests; from Peru it is known from an altitude of about 2300 m.
Description & Notes: Small epiphytic Lepanthes with rounded-looking leaves and small inflorescences appearing below the leaves. The flowers open one after another and can reappear repeatedly over a long period. With us, it grows brightly in diffuse light, at high humidity and even moisture. We cultivate it at temperate to cool temperatures, about 13–22 °C, with good air movement.
