Description

Lepanthes tentaculata

Name: Lepanthes tentaculata Luer

Etymology: The genus name Lepanthes is derived from the Greek lepis ("scale") and anthos ("flower"). The epithet tentaculata means "tentacled" and refers to the long, thread-like extensions of the floral parts.

First description: The species was described in 1984 by Carlyle A. Luer.

Origin / Habitat: Ecuador, Esmeraldas, in moist cloud forests at approximately 750 m. It grows epiphytically.

Description & Care: Small Lepanthes with slender shoots and a single leaf. The delicate inflorescences bear small flowers with characteristic, tentacle-like extensions. The flowers are approximately 3 mm in size. We grow it in bright to shaded conditions, with high humidity, good air circulation, and consistent moisture. We keep it at approximately 16–22 °C.
