Name: Lepanthes pilosella Rchb.f.
Synonyms: Andinia pilosella (Rchb.f.) Luer
Etymology: The genus name Lepanthes is derived from Greek; pilosella means "small hairy" and refers to the conspicuous hairiness.
First described: 1886 by Heinrich Gustav Reichenbach.
Origin/Distribution: The species is widespread in the Andes of South America.
Location/Habitat: We cultivate Lepanthes pilosella in cool to intermediate conditions at approximately 13–21 °C, with very high humidity, bright filtered light, and constant, good air circulation. We keep the fine roots consistently slightly moist.
Description and remarks: Characteristic features include its pendulous growth, hairy plant parts, and small, highly detailed flowers. This species is particularly well-suited for a humid display case or mounted culture provided there is reliably high humidity.
