Description

Lepanthes orchestris

Name: Lepanthes orchestris Luer & R.Vásquez

Etymology: The genus name Lepanthes is derived from the Greek lepis ("scale") and anthos ("flower").

First description: The species was described in 1983 by Carlyle A. Luer and Roberto Vásquez.

Origin / Habitat: Ecuador, in moist Andean cloud forests. It grows epiphytically and can produce inflorescences directly on the leaf surface.

Description & Care: Striking miniature orchid with large, darkly patterned leaves and very small, star-shaped flowers that can appear directly on the leaf surface. We grow it in bright to shaded conditions, with high humidity, good air circulation, and consistent moisture. We keep it at approximately 10–20 °C.
