Description

Lepanthes martineae

Name: Lepanthes martineae Luer & Cloes

Etymology: The generic name Lepanthes is derived from Greek; martineae honors Martine Cloes-Franssens.

First description: In 2002 by Carlyle A. Luer and Patrick Cloes.

Origin/Distribution: The species is native to Peru.

Location/Habitat: It grows epiphytically in humid mountain forests. We cultivate Lepanthes martineae cool to intermediate at about 12–21 °C, with very high humidity, bright filtered light, and continuous gentle air movement.

Description and notes: The miniature orchid has slender stems and single leathery leaves. The inflorescences can become longer than the leaf and bear several small flowers in succession. The fine root system must never dry out completely.
