Description

Lepanthes escobariana

Name: Lepanthes escobariana Garay

Etymology: The genus name Lepanthes is derived from the Greek lepis ("scale") and anthos ("flower"). The epithet escobariana honors Rodrigo Escobar y Restrepo.

First description: The species was described in 1969 by Leslie A. Garay.

Origin / Habitat: Colombia, especially Antioquia, in moist mountain and cloud forests. It grows epiphytically.

Description & Care: Miniature orchid with a single leathery leaf and long, curved inflorescences, on which the flowers appear sequentially. The flowers are approximately 2.5 cm long and 1.5 cm wide. With us, it grows in bright to shaded conditions, with high humidity, good air circulation, and consistent moisture. We keep it at around 10–20 °C.
