Name: Lepanthes edwardsii Ames
Etymology: The genus name Lepanthes is derived from the Greek lepis ("scale") and anthos ("flower"). The epithet edwardsii honors J.B. Edwards, the collector of the type specimen.
First description: The species was described in 1933 by Oakes Ames.
Origin / Habitat: Central America to northwestern Colombia, including Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Colombia. It grows epiphytically in moist forests from sea level to about 1,500 m.
Description & Notes: Miniature orchid with slender shoots and one leathery, upright leaf each. The relatively large flowers for this small plant appear sequentially on delicate inflorescences. We cultivate it in shade to bright indirect light, with high humidity, good air circulation, and consistent moisture. We keep it at around 15–24 °C.
