Name: Lepanthes eciliata Schltr.
Synonyms: Lepanthes cascajalensis Ames.
Etymology: The genus name Lepanthes is derived from the Greek lepis ("scale") and anthos ("flower"). The epithet eciliata means "without eyelashes" and refers to the missing cilia on certain floral structures.
First description: The species was described in 1913 by Friedrich Richard Rudolf Schlechter.
Origin / Habitat: Costa Rica and Panama, epiphytic in moist mountain and cloud forests. It has been recorded, among other places, in Panama at about 1700 m and in Costa Rica up to about 1800 m.
Description & Care: Small epiphyte with slender, upright shoots and one narrow elliptical leaf each. The small flowers appear sequentially on short inflorescences; they reach about 1 cm. With us, it grows in shaded to bright indirect light, with high humidity and good air circulation. We keep it rather cool, at about 10–20 °C, and do not let the substrate dry out completely.
