Name: Lepanthes echo

Etymology: The genus name Lepanthes is formed from Greek word components. The specific epithet echo refers to Echo, the mountain nymph of Greek mythology, whose name is associated with reverberation.

Origin/Distribution: Andean region of South America.

Location/Habitat: The species grows epiphytically in cool, very moist montane to cloud forests. We recommend shade to bright, diffused light, very high humidity, and continuous air movement. Cool conditions of approximately 10–21 °C during the day and 6–14 °C at night are favorable. Prolonged heat and complete drying out should be avoided.

Description and Notes: Lepanthes echo is a compact botanical miniature orchid with small leaves and delicate, intricately structured flowers. We preferably cultivate it mounted with a thin layer of moss or in a very fine, airy substrate. A cool, well-ventilated orchid display case is particularly suitable. We use as soft water as possible and keep the root system continuously slightly moist without allowing waterlogging.
