Description

Lepanthes dalessandroi

Name: Lepanthes dalessandroi Luer

Etymology: The genus name Lepanthes is derived from Greek words for "scale" and "flower." The specific epithet honors the orchid collector Dennis D’Alessandro.

First description: 1983 by Carlyle A. Luer.

Origin/Distribution: Ecuador and Peru.

Location/Habitat: Epiphytic on mossy branches and trunks in humid mountain forests, at an altitude of approximately 1,700–2,400 m. Cool to intermediate conditions of about 10–21 °C, high humidity, and gentle air movement are recommended.

Description and notes: This miniature orchid is one of the relatively large-flowered species within the genus. Several yellowish to ochre, variably marked flowers can appear at the same time. A padded mount or fine, airy sphagnum moss is suitable; never allow the fine roots to dry out completely.
