Name: Lepanthes aculeata Luer
Etymology: The genus name Lepanthes is derived from Greek; aculeata means "prickly" and refers to the plant's conspicuous surface texture.
First description: 1983 by Carlyle A. Luer.
Origin/Distribution: The species is known from Ecuador and Peru.
Location/Habitat: It grows epiphytically in humid Andean forests. We cultivate Lepanthes aculeata in cool to intermediate conditions at approximately 12–21 °C, with very high humidity, bright filtered light, and continuous gentle air movement.
Description and notes: The small flowers appear sequentially on the upper side of the leaf. In addition, the dark-toned, textured leaves with their striking margins are very decorative. We keep the fine root system constantly slightly moist and never allow it to dry out completely.
