Name: Dryadella cristata
Etymology: The genus name Dryadella is derived from the dryads, the tree and forest nymphs of Greek mythology, and refers to the epiphytic forest habitat. The Latin specific epithet cristata means "crested" or "having a crest" and refers to a striking feature of the flower.
Origin/Distribution: Tropical South America.
Location/Habitat: The species grows epiphytically in moist montane forests. We recommend partial shade to bright, diffused light, high humidity, and continuous air movement. Temperate to warm-temperate conditions of approximately 14–25 °C during the day and 10–18 °C at night are favorable. The fine roots should remain evenly and lightly moist.
Description and Notes: Dryadella cristata is a compact miniature botanical orchid without pronounced pseudobulbs. Small, detailed flowers with elongated sepals emerge between the narrow leaves. We cultivate it in a fine, airy, and slightly moisture-retaining orchid substrate or mounted under high humidity. We water regularly with the softest water possible and avoid prolonged complete drying out.
