Name: Dracula robledorum (P.Ortiz) Luer
Synonyms: Masdevallia chimaera var. robledorum P.Ortiz
Etymology: The genus name Dracula means “little dragon.” The epithet robledorum honors the Colombian orchid-loving couple Robledo.
Origin/Distribution: Colombia.
Habitat: Epiphytic in the cloud forests of the department of Antioquia, at approximately 2,000–2,200 m. The species requires cool temperatures of around 10–20°C, very high humidity, shaded conditions, and constant air movement.
Description and Notes: Dracula robledorum is distinguished by its predominantly yellow flowers. The usually single-flowered inflorescences often grow upright and bear large flowers with long sepals. We grow it in an airy basket with a fine, consistently slightly moist growing medium and low-calcium water. Prolonged periods of warmth are avoided as much as possible.
