Name: Dracula psittacina, (Rchb.f) Luer 1993

Synonyms: Masdevallia psittacina, Rchb.f. 1876

Etymology: psittacina = parrot-like (in the sense of colorful)

Origin: Colombia

Habitat:

epiphytic on mossy trunks, in the Eastern and Central Cordilleras of the Andes in cloud forests at altitudes of 2200-2400m

Notes:

The flowers of Dracula psittacina are approx. 4 - 6cm large, the flower stalks grow horizontally to slightly pendent and can produce up to 6 terminal, successively opening flowers.

Cultivation: Cool to intermediate at about 12–22 °C, shaded, with very high humidity and gentle air movement. Keep evenly moist in a basket with fine substrate.
