Description

Dracula lotax

Name: Dracula lotax (Luer) Luer

Synonyms: Masdevallia lotax Luer

Etymology: The genus name Dracula means “little dragon”; lotax refers to the bowl-shaped flower.

Origin/Distribution: Ecuador and Peru.

Location/Habitat: We cultivate Dracula lotax in cool to intermediate conditions at around 10–22°C, with high humidity, filtered light, and very good air circulation. The delicate root system is kept evenly moist.

Description and Notes: This species is one of the smaller Dracula and produces upright to horizontal inflorescences with comparatively large flowers. Due to its compact growth, it is very well suited to a humid display case. We avoid allowing it to dry out completely.
