Dracula janetiae

Name: Dracula janetiae (Luer) Luer

Synonyms: Masdevallia janetiae Luer

Etymology: The genus name Dracula means “little dragon”; janetiae commemorates Janet Kuhn, who was involved in the discovery of the species.

Location/Habitat: We grow Dracula janetiae in cool to intermediate conditions at around 12–21°C, with very high humidity, bright filtered light, and gentle air circulation. The fine, airy potting medium is kept evenly moist.

Description and Notes: The species produces pendulous inflorescences with striking terminal flowers. A basket culture supports the natural growth direction of the inflorescences. We avoid prolonged heat and complete desiccation.
