Etymology:
houtteana = Louis Benoît van Houtte (1810 - 1876) was a Belgian botanist, plant collector and nursery owner. Together with Charles Morren, he published the monthly journal L’Horticulteur Belge, the first journal to focus on Belgian horticulture. In addition to numerous collecting trips, he later ran a seed and flower shop in Brussels, where he also dealt in flower bulbs and garden tools
Origin: Colombia
Habitat:
epiphytic in the western Cordilleras, widely distributed from wet to moist cloud forest at elevations of 1300 to 2400m
Notes:
Dracula houtteana is a very narrow-leaved, compactly growing Dracula that, with good cultivation, can produce many 5 x 5cm individual flowers on slightly drooping flower stalks. The plant loves high humidity, otherwise the leaf tips quickly turn brown and later black.
Cultivation: Cool to intermediate at about 12–22 °C, shady to moderately bright, with very high humidity and gentle air movement. Keep evenly moist in a basket with a fine, airy substrate.
