Description

Dracula barrowii

Name: Dracula barrowii Luer

Etymology: The genus name Dracula means “little dragon”; barrowii honors the English orchid enthusiast Roy Barrow.

First described: 2002 by Carlyle A. Luer.

Location/Habitat: We grow Dracula barrowii in cool to intermediate conditions at around 12–21°C, with very high humidity, bright filtered light, and continuous gentle air movement. We keep the fine, airy potting medium evenly moist.

Description and Notes: This rare Dracula produces the distinctive flowers typical of the genus, with long, pointed sepals. As detailed information about the original find site is poorly documented, we grow it under cool, moist cloud forest conditions. We avoid prolonged heat.
