Name: Dracula astuta 'Ecuagenera'
Etymology: The genus name Dracula means "little dragon" in Latin and refers to the unusual shape of the flowers. The Latin specific epithet astuta means "clever", "cunning" or "crafty". 'Ecuagenera' designates the selected clone of this species.
Origin/Distribution: Andean region of South America.
Location/Habitat: The species grows epiphytically in cool, very moist montane cloud forests. We recommend shade to bright, diffused light, high humidity and continuous air movement. Cool conditions of approximately 10–21 °C during the day and 6–14 °C at night are favorable. High temperatures and prolonged drying out should be avoided.
Description and Notes: Dracula astuta is a compact, pseudobulbless orchid with elongated leaves and characteristic flowers whose sepals taper into long points. The 'Ecuagenera' clone was selected due to its attractive qualities. We cultivate the plant in an airy, moisture-retaining substrate, preferably in a grid or hanging basket. We use as soft water as possible and keep the substrate evenly slightly moist.
